Planeteers

Using the oceans as largest carbon sinks on the planet to permanently store CO2 while fighting ocean acidification.

What Planeteers does

In nature, atmospheric CO2 reacts with rainwater and follows a natural process to be stored more than 10'000 years in global oceans. Planeteers take this natural process as a model and accelerate it by converting industrial CO2 into mineralized water and permanenly storing it in water. The mineralized water is successively adapted to the surrounding water and also has the co-benefit of counteracting acidification of the oceans (a consequence of climate change).

Why Clima Now is investing in Planeteers

Next to CO2 reduction, carbon removal will become imperial in reaching net zero targets and the so-called blue carbon removals show gigaton potential since the oceans are the largest carbon sink in the world. The Planeteers process (ocean alkalinity enhancement) not only allows to store large amount of industrial CO2 but also indicates great benefits for global oceans and its ecosystem.

The Planeteers process binds industrial CO2 together with natural lime to form bicarbonates in water (mineralised water).
